How to Make Homemade Beetroot Lip Balm with Fresh Beetroot Juice

Creating your own beetroot lip balm at home is a fun and natural way to keep your lips soft and beautifully tinted. Beetroot is packed with vitamins and antioxidants that nourish the lips, while its natural pigment gives a lovely rosy tint. Here’s how to make your own beetroot lip balm using fresh beetroot juice.

Ingredients:

  • 1 fresh beetroot (for juice)
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil
  • 1 tablespoon shea butter (or cocoa butter)
  • 1 teaspoon beeswax (or candelilla wax for a vegan option)
  • Optional: a few drops of essential oil (like peppermint or lavender) for added fragrance

Instructions:

Step 1: Extract Beetroot Juice

  1. Peel and chop the beetroot into small pieces.
  2. Blend the beetroot with a little water to form a smooth paste.
  3. Strain the mixture through a fine cloth or sieve to extract the juice. Make sure the juice is as concentrated as possible, as this will give the lip balm its color.

Step 2: Prepare the Balm Base

  1. In a small heatproof bowl, add the coconut oil, shea butter (or cocoa butter), and beeswax.
  2. Place the bowl over a pot of simmering water (double boiler method) and gently heat until all the ingredients melt together.
  3. Stir the mixture well to combine all the oils and wax.

Step 3: Add Beetroot Juice

  1. Once the oils and wax have melted, remove the bowl from heat.
  2. Gradually stir in the fresh beetroot juice, adding a few drops at a time. Mix thoroughly after each addition to ensure the juice blends well with the balm base.
  3. Continue adding beetroot juice until you achieve the desired color intensity. Be careful not to add too much liquid, as it can affect the balm’s texture.

Step 4: Optional – Add Essential Oil

If you want to add a pleasant fragrance, mix in a few drops of your favorite essential oil, such as peppermint or lavender.

Step 5: Pour and Set

  1. Pour the mixture into small containers or lip balm tubes while it’s still liquid.
  2. Let the balm cool and solidify at room temperature or place it in the fridge for faster setting.

How to Use:

  • Apply the beetroot lip balm as needed to keep your lips moisturized and tinted with a natural rosy hue.
  • Store the balm in a cool, dry place, and it will last for several weeks.

Benefits of Homemade Beetroot Lip Balm:

  • Natural Tint: The beetroot juice provides a subtle, natural red or pink color, giving your lips a healthy glow.
  • Nourishment: Coconut oil, shea butter, and beeswax deeply hydrate and nourish your lips, leaving them soft and smooth.
  • Chemical-Free: Unlike commercial lip products, this homemade balm contains no artificial dyes or chemicals, making it safe and gentle for everyday use.

Enjoy your all-natural, beautifully tinted beetroot lip balm and keep your lips soft and nourished with this easy-to-make DIY recipe!
